Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about CourtNomad.

Getting started

What is CourtNomad?+
CourtNomad is a tennis platform that connects players, clubs, and coaches through an accurate rating system (Glicko-2). No connections needed — just your level, and opponents who match it.
How do I sign up?+
Click 'Join the waitlist', enter your email, and you'll receive an invite. Once you get access, complete a short skill assessment (15 questions) and you'll immediately receive a starting rating.
Do I need competitive tennis experience?+
No. CourtNomad is for all levels — from complete beginners to experienced recreational players. The skill assessment exists precisely to capture where you are, wherever that may be.
Which formats do you support?+
Singles (men's and women's), doubles, and mixed. The women's category has a separate rating that doesn't mix with the men's. Sparring and training sessions are a separate category — they don't affect the global rating.
📊

Rating & ranking

How does the Glicko-2 rating work?+
Glicko-2 is a statistical algorithm that calculates your level based on matches played, opponent strength, and margin of victory (sets, games). Unlike simple Elo, Glicko-2 also tracks rating reliability (RD) — the less you play, the less reliable your rating becomes, and the algorithm makes larger corrections.
What are RP points and how are the ranks named?+
RP (Rating Points) is your numerical rating. Ranks go from C5 (lowest) to A1 (highest), with 6 categories (C, B, B+, A-, A, A+) of 5 sub-levels each. Every match moves your rating up or down.
How many matches do I need for a stable rating?+
Around 10–15 verified matches is enough for initial stabilization. Until then, you're a 'provisional' player — your rating may fluctuate more. Verification is two-way: both players confirm the result.
Does the rating reset?+
No, the global rating does not reset. Seasons have a separate leaderboard (by number of wins within the season window), but your RP stays the same. Long inactivity increases RD (uncertainty) — meaning larger corrections in subsequent matches.

Matches & challenges

How do I challenge an opponent?+
Find a player in the Find tab, open their profile and click 'Challenge'. You propose the day, time, and optionally a court. The opponent accepts, declines, or makes a counter-offer. Once confirmed — you play.
What are 'open matches'?+
An open match is a listing — you post that you're looking for an opponent for a specific day/format/surface, and wait for someone to accept. You can also set an RP range to get opponents at your level.
How is the result entered?+
The winner enters the sets and games. The opponent confirms. Only after double confirmation does the rating change. If you disagree — a dispute is opened and reviewed by moderators.
What happens if the opponent cancels at the last minute?+
Cancelling a confirmed match within 2 hours before the start triggers an automatic walkover loss (2:0). This protects your schedule — if someone cancels, there's a record. Cancelling more than 2 hours before is free with no penalty.

Courts & bookings

How does court booking work?+
Partner clubs enter available slots on the platform. Once you arrange a match, you can select a court directly from the app. Payment is handled on-site — CourtNomad coordinates the booking, it doesn't charge for it.
Which cities and courts are available?+
Active cities can be found on the Cities page. The network is expanding — if your city isn't there yet, you can sign up and be notified when CourtNomad arrives.
Can I play without booking a court?+
Yes. The court is an optional part of the challenge. You can arrange to play on your own court, a public park, or anywhere else. The match and result are still recorded.
🧑‍🏫

Coaches

How do I find a coach?+
On the Coaches page you can filter by city, specialization, surface, and price. A coach's profile shows certifications, experience, availability, and ratings from previous clients.
Does a training session affect the rating?+
No. Training and sparring sessions are a separate category (affects_global_rp = false). You can freely train without worrying that it will affect your rating.

Clubs

How can a club join CourtNomad?+
Through the For clubs page you can apply. After onboarding you enter courts, working hours, and prices. Players automatically see you when searching for available slots in your location.
What does the club portal offer?+
Court and availability management, full booking calendar, occupancy and revenue statistics, member management, a reminder system, and the ability to accept public bookings from guests without an account.
Does CourtNomad charge a commission?+
CourtNomad doesn't take a commission on bookings — courts are paid directly to the club. Clubs pay a monthly subscription for access to management tools.

Premium & pricing

Is CourtNomad free?+
Core functionality is completely free: rating, finding opponents, challenges, result confirmation, and leaderboard. The Premium plan unlocks advanced statistics, priority matching, multi-city access, and additional features.
What exactly do I get with the Premium plan?+
Premium includes: unlimited access to all cities, advanced match statistics and analytics, priority matching (your profile shows up higher), ability to organize tournaments and leagues, and priority customer support. See pricing for details.
Can I cancel my subscription?+
Yes, at any time. Cancellation is one click from Settings → Subscription. Access remains active until the end of the paid period.
🔒

Privacy & account

Is my data safe?+
Yes. We follow GDPR guidelines. Your exact GPS location never leaves the server — the map shows an approximation. You can export or delete all your data from Settings at any time.
Can other players see my location?+
Not exactly. Other players see an approximate location (offset up to ~1km, deterministic based on your ID — can't be averaged or tracked). Your exact address is never visible.
How do I delete my account?+
Settings → Account → Delete account. All data (profile, matches, rating) is permanently deleted within 30 days. This step is irreversible.
What happens when I report a dispute?+
If you disagree on the result, you open a dispute. A moderator reviews data from both players and makes a decision within 48 hours. While the dispute is open, the rating doesn't change.
